Assos is a village located on the west coast of the Greek island of Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands in Greece. Kefalonia is named after the mythological figure Cephalus - some believe its name means 'island with a head' due to the shape of the island. Kefalonia has a population of around 45,000.
Assos is approximately 45 Kilometres heading north from the airport, it will take around one hour to drive. Leaving the airport follow signs for Argostoli, drive through the town and follow signs to Fiskardo. Enjoy the scenic route for approximately 45 minutes/40 kilometres. You will come across a point where people are stopping to look down at Myrtos beach, once you have reached this point you are about 15 minutes from Assos. This is a wonderful spot for some dramatic photos of Myrtos beach from above. Unfortunately the road signs are not very good so you will probably have to ask a couple of times.
The main Assos road is a turning to the left which is well sign posted. Follow the road down to Assos, around 5 minutes drive. At the beginning of the village you will signs for car parks and Assos to the right or slight left/straight. Go straight, about 300 meters further down you will see a new building of three houses to your right, (Thalassa, Thimari and Pefko) park up and unload. There is a small car park nearby which is free for everyone to use.
